7 Tips for Choosing an Engagement Ring ...

Finding a ring your loved one will love is hard work indeed - even harder for those operating on a tight budget. Luckily, there are plenty of good tips for choosing an engagement ring that could help you find a perfect balance between what you’ve seen in movies and what you can afford. I’m about to share some of them with you today so take a look at these 7 tips for choosing an engagement ring and feel free to comment or add some of your own, too.

An engagement ring is something big, something your special lady should want to wear all day, every day so make sure you give her the ring she wants. Don’t buy her an extra flashy ring if you know she prefers low-key jewelry and don’t go for yellow gold if you’ve never seen her wearing anything of such kind. Now, contrary to many beliefs, you don’t need a fortune teller to help you choose the ring your future wife would love, you just need to pay attention to those tiny details and you’ll be just fine.

2

Decide on the Style

Engagement rings go from totally modern and unlike anything you’ve ever seen to totally traditional, pretty much what we’re used to seeing in movies so the best way to make sure you’ll get the right one, is to determine which style she likes. Feel free to ask her BFF, mom or sister for help because some of us tend to be quite “strange” and hard to figure out sometimes. I, for example, love modern jewelry but would never choose a modern engagement or wedding ring.

Determine Your Budget

Once you know what to look for, determining your budget should be relatively easy. (Easy, not painless… ). Don’t worry though – you don’t have to buy a huge rock! Furthermore, if you do the step 1 and step 2 and manage to find the style she loves, the size of the rock won’t matter at all. Believe me, guys, you don’t have to go broke or put a body part for auction (just joking!) just so you can afford a rock that would make all her friends (and frenemies) turn green.

Don’t Let the Sales Assistant Talk You into Stuff

Okay, so the next one of my tips for choosing an engagement ring would be to listen to everything that nice SA has to say but insist on having it your way. You have your budget all figured out and, by now, you know which style you want so, feel free to see what else is there but never let anybody talk you into drastically exceeding your budget or opting for a style you know your future fiancée won’t like.

Be Smart

Want more useful tips for choosing an engagement ring? Well, here’s one that might save you a considerable amount of cash – avoid the so-called “markers”. Instead of choosing a 2ct diamond, take a 1.8ct one, if you want a one carat stone, go just a bit down and opt for a 0.9ct one and so on. You’ll save a lot and nobody will be able to tell the difference. Opting for a different, less expensive but equally beautiful stone is also a good idea, plus you can add smaller (and therefore less expensive) diamonds to make it sparkle even brighter.

Just Ask Her

Some women don’t like surprises in general and some just don’t like the ones that involve such an important ring, if your loved one seems like such type, one of the best tips for choosing an engagement ring would be to ASK her. You can propose without a ring (in case you want to keep the element of surprise) and suggest doing the ring shopping together, for example.

Research

Research before you spend all that hard-earned cash on that little sparkly stone. Make sure you know everything there is to know about it because, that way, nobody would be able to pass you a low-quality diamond. Every good diamond must have a certificate issued by one of the top certification bodies of your country stating important details such as clarity, weight (carat), cut, color etc. These details basically say how “good” your diamond really is so make sure you know what they stand for and how to “use” them to get the best your money can buy.

Well, hope you liked these tips for choosing an engagement ring! I know this isn’t much of a “girl thing” but, hey, I’ve noticed guys read this blog as well, so let’s just hope some of them found the info they were looking for. But, ladies, here’s one question for you, too – Would you like to be consulted about your engagement ring or you prefer surprises?
